Allan served for 27 years as a warfare officer in the Royal Navy, during which he commanded four warships. Whilst in command he was deployed on operations in the Middle East and Gulf Regions, in the North Atlantic protecting the UK nuclear deterrent, and off the coast of Somalia on counter-piracy operations.

He now manages a portfolio career in strategic leadership, defence and the blue economy. Having taken up polo at Tidworth 24 years ago, Al is now Chairman of Tedworth Park Polo Club and also runs Veterans Polo.
