Born in Tanzania, AM Gray commissioned into the Royal Air Force in 1985 after gaining a degree in Electronics.  Her extensive career has included deployments on Gulf War 1 and 2, in charge of the life support, logistics and as Chief Engineer for the Joint Helicopter Force.  In the UK, engineering and command tours were interspersed with staff appointments and a MSc in Aircraft Design.
As Director Combat Air, Defence Equipment & Support, AM Gray was responsible for procurement, engineering and logistics support of all fighter aircraft, training aircraft and RPAS for all 3 Armed Services.  She was appointed Air Officer Commanding Number 38 Group and Chief of Staff Support for HQ Air Command. As the senior engineer in Air Command, she advised the Chief of Air Staff.  In 2019, on promotion to Air Marshal, she assumed the appointment of Director General Defence Safety Authority.

Her hobbies include trying (unsuccessfully) not to fall off her horses, skis and road bicycle.
