When people hear about Armed Forces Equine Charity, they often picture horses – and while they’re an important part of what we do, they’re only one part of the experience.
Our programmes are designed to give serving personnel, veterans and military families the time and space to step away from everyday pressures, reconnect with themselves and build a tool kit that positively supports their long term health.
Throughout the programme, beneficiaries take part in a range of experiences, each chosen to encourage reflection, teamwork and personal growth.
Whether it’s walking through peaceful countryside, spending time observing nature, trying photography, taking part in creative art sessions or learning alongside horses, every experience provides an opportunity to slow down, be present and focus on mindfulness techniques.
The rural environment plays an important role too. Time spent outdoors, away from the demands of daily life, allows beneficiaries to pause, reset and experience the calming benefits of nature. Research highlights that these environments support relaxation, reflection and recovery.
There is no pressure to perform or to share more than someone feels comfortable with. Instead, beneficiaries are encouraged to engage at their own pace, build connections and discover practical ways to support their own wellbeing.
Every programme is aimed to create a safe, supportive environment where beneficiaries can take positive steps towards creating their own recovery pathway.
